    I’m back! For awhile, after a month on the road. The bus driver looked surprised when he stamped my bus ticket and noted that the last stamp was dated four weeks ago. And strange again, because I came home to an empty house, with a load of mail waiting for me. I’ve unpacked all my things, knowing that I will have to pack them again pretty soon, which is fine by me, except that I have a shitload of laundry to do by Monday. 

    This past month has been good. From being with friends to meeting friends of friends, though somewhat randomly and by tenuous connection (one always marvels at how Facebook improves communications by leaps and bounds), we covered London and Paris and then Portugal — which I loved — Lisbon more than Porto, but still lovely all the same.

    It’s early in the morning now, and as usual, I can’t sleep. The sky is red and you know what they say about red skies in the morning and red skies at night. Tonight the moon is full, as it was last night, but tonight the moon hung low behind the tree outside my house and I had to look harder to find it. It’s just like most things, which disappear without you noticing in the hope you’ll look ever harder for them.

    This post is about Yokohama, with which I think I might have a special love affair. This is not to say that I didn’t love all the other cities I went to, but that they mean different things to me. Tokyo is the place of childhood and dreams, mainly because I went there so many times when I was younger, though as you grow older you discover its ever-increasing adult attractions. Osaka was all about food and relaxation and just generally having fun doing everything and nothing. Kyoto was full of history, but Yokohama…

    Yokohama is full of lights and romance. Yokohama is the place you bring girls to when you want to impress them. It doesn’t seem like much because it’s so near Tokyo and it’s so easy to overlook, but it retains that particular, off-centre, sort of feeling. It’s near but not too near. It has its own voice, its own attractions, its own history. Some people say Chinatown wasn’t too interesting; sometimes you just need to know where to look. Stepping into Minato Mirai is fascinating precisely because we’re at an age where we can appreciate it, still: the free theme parks, ferris wheels, lights across the sea, the red brick warehouses and the smoke curling up from beneath the windows. It seriously is the number one place to bring a girl on a date. It is so romantic you can choke.

    Just a quick post: in Yokohama now, heading to Osaka tomorrow morning.

    Everybody loves Japan, yes? I am no exception. I wish I could stay here forever, but we all know that’s not possible. However I thoroughly indulged my fangirl self ogling cute boys everywhere (and the girls are so pretty) including random Kanjani8 Nissin Cup Noodle advertisements in the subway, caved in and bought two KAT-TUN DVDs (haha did you know Johnny’s Entertainment has their own separate section in HMV?) and a magazine (the one where the photo below appears) while my boyfriend dragged me all across Harajuku and Shibuya shopping and looking for his weird obscure underground shops. Oh, and he bought about half of Uniqlo as well. Also, I have overheard more conversations about the merits of Akanishi vs Kamenashi vs random Japanese celebrity from girls with their boyfriends than I can count. Starbucks is freaking everywhere.

    Today was good: Yokohama is a pretty place. Pictures when I come back; the night lights are beautiful. I’ve also sat more rollercoasters than I can count, including the ones in Disneyland (the parade was magical omg, but I got sunburnt haha) and some random super drop rollercoaster in Yokohama today, in a free theme park no less!

    Lots of food. Ate orgasmic sushi at Tsukiji it’s like food porn. Really can die.　And my Japanese is super bad it’s so embarrassing.

    Did I ever tell you I love Muji food? Like, not the clothes, but the random selection of weird and wonderful foods they stock up near the back. Like plum cheese tarts and black pepper cheese bites. Yum. 

    I should be buying less since I’ll be in Japan in a few days, but I can’t help it. Anyway yesterday concluded the neverending series of birthday parties (surprise, and otherwise).

      OMG is this why jinx was all ‘hurhur have you seen jin and kame acting as a couple on cartoon kat-tun’ on my facebook?!?! ohhh seriously. i cannot take it anymore. how come i dont know anyone this cute?! this is so frustrating! ahahahahaha. no i havent watched it. i am trying to stem my obsession! it is not healthy!! seriously, have just discovered kame’s solo: 16 seconds, and am madly in love.

      it seems a bit weird because an article came out in The Television (some weekly jap mag, like 8 days which reports on TV the following week) going on and on about AKAME: JIN IS KAME’S GIRLFRIEND!!!!! and everyone was like omg it’s just like the old times when jin was the nurse and kame was the doctor. obviously everyone got too excited because as you can see from the caps, it wasn’t really as dramatic as that.

      i love 16 seconds!!! when i first downloaded it it was off limewire when i was still blindly searching for things, anything KAT-TUN related. then when i SAW THAT CHAIR DANCE. did you know he LICKS the chair when he finishes??!?! how is that supposed to keep anyone sane? he really knows how to work a crowd…

      go look for the translation of the lyrics; they are actually very sad. i think he wrote them himself… not sure though. he has this thing for putting very sad lyrics into fake-happy tunes so it becomes a fake-happy song. ahh i don’t know how to explain it.

      haha okay i just watched ep 57, seriously, do you watch it without subs? i couldnt find a subbed one, since obviously its too early, but ya it seems quite funny. though kames hair a bit the funny now ah.
      and i watched the akame nurse/doctor skit. SERIOUSLY. jin looked good. which is REALLY STRANGE. and oh man the puppy bit at the beginning. am very amused by the mass hyperventilation of the fans whenever akame touch/ say something to each other.

      in their younger days there were a lot of these skits. there’s another one floating around somewhere of KAT-TUN being a family where kame is the dad and jin is the mother. although the nurse/doctor wins because their characters flirt with each other so outrageously. hahahaa.

      i didn’t really like HYD that much… and i’m not a matsujun fan so it was difficult to keep watching when he was the main character and he got the most screen time. i liked the other three much better (oguri shun aside, the other two were really interesting… especially in HYD2) and predictably i was rooting for hanazawa rui … but oh well. not resolved even in the movie it seems.

      the part with ueda and kame was very funny. all the random sounds! and the mikes haahaha.

      kame’s hair looks bad. when he takes pictures in magazines with his new haircut it makes him look washed out and old and tired whereas the 1PG hair was so goooood. and also around mid 2007 when he was doing the cartoon kat-tun II you tour. ahhhhh.

      hmm i think if you dont know anything about jdramas,though, you watch the first episode of hyd and go.. OMG! so its good for spreading the love. then as people get used to it you can ’suggest’ anythingelse. haha. matsujun has an annoying face, but hes a pretty good actor. the movie is just going to be madness, evidently. since its got explosions, casinos and what looks like the grand canyon?! haha.
      oh yeahh the 1pg hair was love.

      i was going to ask how come you were awake at such odd times at night when it occurred to me that it’s really already something like 8am in england. obviously waking up early is more foreign a concept to me than staying up late…

      i liked the first few episodes of HYD. maybe cos it focused on hanazawa? hahaha the first jdrama i watched in full (that wasn’t on tv) was water boys. then… the rest is history. :D yes i saw the HYD trailer! can’t wait! even though it’s probably going to be angsty + love triangle again. i hope the other two guys get a bigger role. matsujun is a pretty good actor yes i agree (compared to the rest of the johnny’s boys anyway… besides nino maybe) so i guess it makes up for the fact that he can’t sing. at all.

      leaving tmr! so excited.

      actually ive never watched waterboys. hmmm. perhaps i should.
      i love akira in hyd, btw. hes so adorable. i might even like him more than rui, really. because rui really does get kind of boring. except tt its oguri shun. who is beautiful. and now has a girlfriend! fun!
      how can you forget kame! kame can act! seriously i think kame’s acting is pretty amazing. and considering the crazy roles hes played from nobuta to 1pg, its incredible.
      haha i thought i was the only one who thought tt matsujun cant sing. his solos are how annoying. and hes all nasal. eeeek.
      i am like! how envious! and happy for you! seriously, okay, you be safe. and happy! its japan! glorious, amazing, shiny and beautiful japan!

      hmmm i think kame’s acting is not matsujun level yet, but it’s pretty good! waay better than yamapi. hahaha oh but matsujun’s acting was pretty bad in kindaichi. not that i was really paying attention to him because kindaichi is worth watching for its own sake. :D

      water boys is pretty funny and there are a lot of half-naked guys. but if you’ve watched one you’ve watched all (just like gokusen) but it’s still pretty good. partly because yamada takayuki is a really good actor.

      yes akira! i found myself hoping he would get together with tsukushi’s friend, whose name i cannot remember now. ah well.

      haha! even if they were fans, i dont think anyone would be able to skive off and watch them. anyway theyre only in fukuoka a week after i leave. and apcc doesnt allow you to stay on!!!

      havent watched kindaichi. okay you should make me a list of the things you think i should watch then next year when im bored i’ll watch them. hee hee. yamapi gets REALLY GOOD ROLES even though his acting isnt great. its quite sad. also, did you know tt apparently yamapi hit 7th on some poll for the best looking asian male. kame was 4th. im shocked! why is yamapi so attractive to so many people?!

      are you mixing akira up with soujiro who actually has the whole issue with the best friend? akira’s the one with the crazy mom and twin sisters.

      on the them debuting late even though they were super popular as a backdancing unit, i find tt quite uniquely japanese. in a way. like, who else is going to notice backup dancers? was watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzkCMblfr7o , which is them backdancing, and OMG all of them have black hair! ahahahaha. anyway, wldnt the seishun amigo thing be quite clearly a temporary thing, since it was just for the show? yeah i think the delay probably helped. i mean, since everyone wanted them, for them to debut at the tokyo dome was probably quite smart. since they had a fan base already. yeah i thought it was a bit odd tt jin ran off suddenly for 6 months right after they debuted. but thank goodness, he’s come back with better english. haha.

      have you seen the thing in which nakamaru demonstrates his “god like skills at making cleanser foam”? its HILARIOUS!!!! “jitsu wa boku” or smth.

      YES. he is really made of win.

      and i found a youtube link! yah it was temporary but it did mean kame technically debuted before all of them, which is sure to cause some tension esp since they didn’t know what was going to happen to them at the time. so, oh well.

      its amazing how all this business stuff works. it was probably a really good marketing strategy but it sure wrecked hell on the boys themselves… anyway they were fighting so much between themselves in the earlier years it was probably a good idea to let them grow up. they’re still like little kids now. hahaha

      no i’m not – anyway no one is subbing it now (it just aired on saturday) so i’m not going to bother. they’re promoting some new johnny’s junior now and the rating was 26.4% which is CRAZY.

      yah i remember he just took the traffic cone and put it there and said “pretend this is a rock” and everyone is just like WTF?? ueda … is the only one of the members i’m apathetic about. but i suppose he can be quite funny if he wants to too.. hahaha. anyway years later when they debuted they talked about that fight and kame said he actually wanted to quit after that.

      i hate the library too but i have to go to school or i just won’t study. staying at home is so distracting with th bed whereas here you kind of feel like you have to study because everyone around you seems to be working hard. erp.

      when do you get back? i’m away from the 12th to the 27th but i dunno if its still (or ever) showing in singapore. i’ll watch it with you sure!!!

      i just rewatched the maki episode and it was so funny. partly because everyone was trying to make themselves appealing to her and junno and jin just kept saying irrelevant things. ahhhh.

      i dont know. i dont really like koki either, to be honest. but at least he seems quite… nice..? ueda’s just a bit of a freak. goodness. though i dont understand why -kame- wanted to quit, since it was ueda who was getting flak, right?

      eek i get all freaked out in the library then i cant focus. too many stress cases. i just go to my living room. anyway, i tend to be alone in my flat alot so as long as i stay away from my com its okay la.

      im back on 15th may. yayyy! okay excellent. well, lets just meet and do something where we can gush to the fullest extent. haha.

      oh. ratings are just basically the percentage of people in the region that actually watch your show. so a rating of 26.4% means roughly 1 in 4 households is watching gokusen 3 at that particular time. that’s really quite amazing considering how many people there are.

      i used to think koki was weird but i guess he’s okay now. he postures alot and tries to act gangsta (haha) and stuff but he’s actually pretty smart (he writes all the rap and goes to university etc etc) and he gives off a teddy bear vibe. hahahah. kame wanted to quit cos nakamaru made a mistake and ueda was the nearest one, but he didn’t cover for him. after that the other members told him about it and he apologized but kame was out of the room and didn’t hear anything about it, so when kame got back he got pissed and went to confront ueda and basically screamed at him. ueda – naturally – got pissed too – and they started punching each other. so kame was all like OMG i can’t do this etc etc

      they talk about this fight alot even now. it’s quite funny (:

      i shall look at the clip when it’s not 7am in the morning. hur hur

      its basically oguri shun’s radio show with matsujun where they call inoue mao at like 1am in the morning. its quite funny la.

      yah when i first saw the title i was like WTF? JIN? but that was before he went to LA so i have high hopes his english has drastically improved by now. the lyrics to pinky are super suggestive but zzzz it’s not like anyone can stop watching it though i agree it’d probably be 100000x hotter if it were kame dancing with him instead.

      what video is that! yes i like the song too. i like how all their singles are so different from each other but somehow they can still pull it off. probably an image thing… compared to the other JE groups they are really different. like they don’t give off the squeaky clean scandal free image but something just draws you to them… hahaha

      but i like kanjani8 though – they are really funny. like comedic funny. they do stand up comedy shows during their concerts and stuff. a few of them actually contemplated being comedians before they got whisked off to johnny’s instead. it is really amazing.

      i was just talking to my junior last night and we figured there is really no way kame can ever be straight. i mean, he is, i’m sure … but somehow imagining him with a guy is much easier than being with a girl?! maybe it’s because he looks kind of feminine (even now) and is totally … omg. haha is it just me!?

      i think it might be because they are actually quite hot. i mean like, look at arashi. you cant really go crazy over their looks or anything, though they are talented. kat-tun has the benefit of being hot and insane.

      omg i just watched that in full view of the study room. hahaha and yes…

      alot of people think arashi is hot though! for me they look okay — they just have this homey look. like the boy next door kind of look. sakurai sho is really smart though!! i guess it’s partly because kat-tun took so many years to debut that they really had so much time to perfect their image. there was one episode of shounen club they did just before they debuted and they watched old videos of themselves and they were like “man, i’m so glad we didn’t debut in that state” cos they all looked weird and awkward and young.

      yeah it’s probably the ridiculous skinniness. which is why i’m happy that yamapi actually has a sizeable chest (for his size anyway) and a 6 pack and doesnt really look anorexic. but other than that… well some of them are really good looking. like nishikido ryo! (kanjani8/news)

      you must admit the whole business strategy is very good. and it works out for both parties since johnny gets backdancers for all his debuted groups and the young boys get to train up and become stars. ahhh. he is really a genius (even though he does look like a bit of a pedo)

      kame had a 40 year old girlfriend! from then on, it has never been the same. he did say he liked mature women and i think that’s very true for his character and so i cant imagine him with like some cute japanese thing. or anyone his age. its just a bit weird. which breaks hearts of fangirls everywhere around the world. hahaha

      slutty. the word is slutty.

      hmm. ya i guess tts true. but like, arashi doesnt have tt like… sluttiness about them tt might just be due to the akame factor in kat-tun… though perhaps this is just due to me finding the whole idea of matsujun being slutty really really gross. yeahh actually the fact tt they debuted quite late is a good point. i didnt think abt that. though also its not like they were working together a lot beforehand right, weren’t they just random backup dancers for one of their senpais?

      okay you say tt and ive just watched stand up! in which, im serious, you can actually see yamapi’s ribcage. though he must have been quite young in it. still. its REALLY SCARY. its also got oguri shun and nino from arashi. its okay la. good for exam time.

      i actually havent watched anything with nishikido ryo in it yet. whats good?

      his genius is undisputable, but seriously, man. its all a bit mad! and its so sad if you like, work for years and years and never really make it.

      hahaha well think about it. we’re okay with chicks and older guys. im just quite amused abt it. though ya! seriously, i was quite shocked tt she was like 40! i mean, 30 wld be a lot more acceptable. haha well, fangirls can take it. there are always more hot guys out there.

      slutty is such a good word for kame, dont you think. hahaha. and i mean it in the BEST way possible!

      hmm no actually it was pretty surprising they debuted so late because they were so popular. like they started out as a backdancing unit but eventually they became so popular the following year they held concerts already. and that was a pretty big thing for groups who hadn’t debuted yet. and they keep working and doing stuff and dramas and things, and they were still holding concerts all the way up to 2005 (twice in a year, two different tours) even though they still hadn’t debuted or released a CD.

      so even though they were pretty unhappy about seeing 3 groups formed after them debut before them, they were like… oh well… we still get to do concerts and stuff so it’s not too bad. but they were seriously thinking of giving up just before debut time i think. around the nobuta period because of the seishun amigo thing and i think kame got a lot of shit for that from kat-tun fans.

      it was pretty bad for awhile, esp a few months after they finally debuted, jin had to go run off to LA. so its been a rollercoaster ride for them, i think. somehow i wonder whether johnny deliberately delayed their debut just to hype up the popularity. their debut concert was in tokyo dome!!! NEWS _just_ performed there after debuting for like 5 years!

      i know what you mean about the slutty. hahaha

    爱你伍佰年！Thank you for the ticket, guys. It was so wonderful. I sat 10 rows from the stage and I got to see every single detail up close, properly, including his 34869759 guitar changes (beautiful guitars too!) and everyone was jumping up and down with lightsticks and generally going crazy. I didn’t sit down at all the whole time, and that was over 3 hours. He gave two encores, there was a lot of fireworks, and random confetti. Whoever said Singaporeans are staid obviously aren’t going to the right concert. Chinese fans are seriously crazy. It was so fun. That said, I have never seen so many Ah Bengs congregated in one area before. Hahaha.
