the tree along braddell road has been cut down finally, only a few months after the government responded to public outcry and spent $200,000 trying to save the tree. why? the official reason is because some random scholar decided that the tree was a clear and present danger to all motorists who were, naturally, not adhering to the advised speed limit of 40km/h along that road — because such a speed limit has been statistically proven to be unrealistic seeing as how they have discovered people tend to drive faster along those bends than a measly 40km/h, especially at night when there is no traffic. so for people driving above 40km/h, there is too real a chance that someone stupid will crash into the tree divider someday.
having driven there almost every day since i’ve gotten my licence (i take the road on the way home both from school and the bf’s house) and being clearly still alive even though i drive there at 2am in the morning and taking the bend at 70km/h, may i humbly propose that (1) the fact is that stupid people will crash into anything, including the expressway divider on a straight road, and (2) the onus is on every motorist to open his eyes and look where he is going, regardless of how fast he drives. the tree is not totally obscured by the construction that is going on, and if you are taking the road for the first time, common sense tells you to at least slow down marginally to look where you are going. in other words, it really is not that easy to crash into something so big!!!!
sometimes i feel as if the government gives in just to pacify us and look like they are doing their job and listening to the people and then 6 months later (when everyone’s forgotten about it) they give some stupid official-sounding and theoretically sound reason and then proceed to do exactly what they planned to do at the start. most of the time i just feel entirely cheated.

happier things — i think these days i feel better about myself as a person, and i’m getting used to being young and reckless. i haven’t felt so good about being old and young enough at the same time, and i feel as if there are so many things out there waiting for me to do. i’m not talking about academic opportunities, or job opportunities; things like internships and work and things to do with practical life have no place in my summer holidays. all i’ve done is recharge, taking the best i can out of this break, doing all things i couldn’t have done during my school term, like visit the national museum and watch all the movies i want at home with the bf, go driving in the middle of the night, read and read and read, sit in a coffee joint and chill out with a macchiato, travel around the world, blast my playlist on the car stereo with the windows down and the doors open and dance to the music, and rediscover things about my friends, myself and my country just by wandering about aimlessly. all this you can only do with lots of time on your hands. real life can wait till school starts! i’m determined to enjoy my youth, my holiday; to do things i’ll regret not doing when i’m married with two kids who want their own life, things utterly stupid and romantic. oh yes, i’m feeling good (:

be glad you dont have to read like 50 pages of this:
The Caliph’s transcendence figures as an energy yielding a force which acts, by the violent means of nature, upon human nature in order to produce culture, but yet remains beyond this culture as a reserve of untrammels nature ever producing and maintaining culture: The Caliph is the untamable tamer and the savage domesticator, continuously exercising the corrective primal violence with which chaos was subdued in primeval times…
much love,
